My life is extremely routine. The redundancies of my life have turned me into a writer who craves deadlines. Laundry is done on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays or Sundays. I want the weekday laundry finished by noon. A newsletter needs to be emailed for my boss every Monday. Another newsletter has to be emailed for my boss's other website every other Thursday. I want those sent by 10:00 a.m. on their scheduled days. I actually do most of the prepping for the Monday newsletter after I email the Thursday newsletter since more work is required for the Monday newsletter.
My son's home education lessons must begin by 8:00 a.m each weekday. I assign work that can be done with little to no assistance from me on Mondays and Thursdays. Thursday is also grocery day. We buy groceries to last an entire week. That takes about an hour round trip but it would be about a half-hour round trip if I did that every day so it does save me about three hours and about a gallon of gas by going only once a week. If I forget something, that is picked up if we have weekend errands.
Midweek cleaning is performed on Wednesdays. It consists of vacuuming and cleaning the sinks and toilets in the bathrooms. the dishes are washed every night after dinner. The rest of the kitchen is wiped down thoroughly each night as well. The rest of the housework is done on Fridays and/or Saturdays. This includes vacuuming and cleaning the sinks and toilets again along with cleaning the tubs, dusting the furniture and mopping. I just can't seem to work efficiently if the house feels dirty.
I try to write for two hours before the rest of my life begins each weekday. If I get everything done early, I have a couple of free hours for writing before dinner needs to be prepared and served each evening. When my son has a week off from lessons like he does this week, I have more time to write. I check my work email twice an hour for customer support issues. The cat gets brushed on cleaning days. I am currently taking a writing course and plan to have it completed before this Christmas since I can work at my own pace.
Assisting with home education lessons, my virtual assistant duties, writing, and my writing course require a lot of sitting so I try to exercise for about fifteen minutes every morning. Push mowing is something else I do to get more exercise during spring, summer and early autumn.
Of course, when Austin graduates in May 2015, I will have much more time to write. But for now, his education continues to be my main priority. And a closely followed schedule aids in keeping that my main priority.
Thanks for visiting,
Patricia
