I recently subscribed to Poets & Writers Magazine and requested a refund as soon as I had free a moment to read it. In the very first issue I received, I was astounded at the use of the "F" word in the magazine. The subject line in the email I sent them actually read "disturbed and outraged". I didn't even read the entire magazine and saw that word three times in the first 50 pages.
I decided right away that the profanity was not going to aid in my becoming a better writer. It certainly wasn't entertaining to read. Nor were the long, boring articles that contained from-birth details of writers and editors and, often, their family members who were not writers or editors.
Instead, I have decided to wing it. I think I am a pretty good writer without have to use boring and overused profanity. I will dare to be different as I feel certain that many people are not looking for profanity for reading amusement.
Thanks for visiting,
Patricia
